In 2014, a group of young students in Kuala Lumpur joined HOPE’s basketball program. What started as a simple activity to help them stay active and learn teamwork has, over the years, grown into something much more: a story of dedication, growth, and community.
The program was created to give youth a positive outlet for their energy while teaching discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Week after week, staff worked with the players to build not only their athletic skills but also their confidence and sense of responsibility. For some, the court became a place to learn what it means to show up, work hard, and support one another.
Fast forward to 2025. The team received an unexpected invitation to compete in a charity basketball tournament, one usually reserved for college-level players. Despite being the only youth team in the competition, they fought their way to the semi-finals, surprising everyone and proving how far they had come.

The excitement that day went beyond basketball. It was a celebration of what consistent support and belief can achieve. Many of the players who first joined as children are now young adults, carrying the lessons of teamwork and determination into every area of their lives.
Programs like this remind us that change does not happen overnight. It happens through years of encouragement, mentorship, and opportunities that help young people see what they are capable of.
We are incredibly proud of this team and grateful to Sun Life Malaysia and our dedicated staff for standing by them throughout their journey. Their success is more than a win on the court; it is proof of what long-term support can build.
